Finding the right type of foundation for your skin can be difficult, especially if your skin is anything like mine and bounces back and forth between dry and oily faster than you can blink. So today I thought I would share a few of the foundation products that I’ve been loving lately,
I will say that these are higher-end products, so they are a bit more expensive than the drug-store brands (obviously) BUT when it comes to foundation, at least for me, I’ve found that these products do work better than the brands that I would find at my local Target or other drug-store.
Let’s start with the Milk Hydro gripping primer because you can’t set up a good foundation without a proper base. I was tuned into this product at my local Sephora when I told them that it felt like my primers that I had been trying were letting me down in a major way. My foundation was just sliding off my face. This primer works like a dream! It has a slight tackiness to it that really helps hold your product in place and keep it from breaking up or slipping away when you are putting your foundation on.
I had been using the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation when my skin is on the drier side, and it works really well. I will also use it when I am having a good skin day (especially during the summer) to just cover any dark spots like under my eyes when I don’t want to mess with a full-face look because I’m probably just going to be sweating it off later on.
My current foundation obsession is the Urban Decay Stay Naked weightless foundation. I couldn’t find an Amazon link for this product, so I linked to the product page on Sephora. I recently got this little babe and honestly, it’s a dream! It’s medium coverage, so not super-heavy sitting on your skin, and your natural bits, (like freckles!) can shine through. But, just because it’s medium coverage doesn’t mean it slacks on providing good coverage. It’s buildable, but I generally don’t have much issue with one layer because it covers what I need it to cover and helps even out my skin tone. It also stays in place like you wouldn’t believe for a medium coverage foundation. I used this makeup on our recent trip to Nashville and after sweating and dancing and being in the humid air all night, I didn’t have any makeup meltdown on my face!
Which brings me around to another staying power favorite, the HudaBeauty #FauxFilter foundation. Say it with me-“This is as full coverage as you can get.” This is the foundation I fall back on for a special event, like a wedding or an all-day outing, where I need my makeup to really perform and not budge on me. I don’t have the time or the inclination to constantly be powdering my face or touching things up. There have been reviews of this product oxidizing and turning a bit darker after it’s applied, but I haven’t had too much of an issue with that. Most likely I will bring this with me and have our makeup artist use this for my base for my sister’s wedding next weekend.
Finally, let’s talk about Tarte’s Shape Tape concealer. This is what I use to highlight my face when I am doing contouring. I use this under my eyes, down my nose, my forehead, basically any place you want to little pop. I don’t always use it, but when I’m doing a full-on LEWK, you best believe I’m bringing out all the products. It has such great staying power, that Tarte even made it into a foundation, Shape Tape foundation, that comes two versions, extra hydrating, and regular.
All these foundations come in a wide variety of shades, and even sub-shades, so you shouldn’t have much trouble finding your perfect match. And with all the holiday parties around the corner, you should probably snap up one or two of these products to put in your makeup bag for flawless skin!
