These super tasty hamburgers are a take on White Castle’s famous little burgers.
- 1 to 2 onions (white or yellow)
- Hamburger patties (pre-formed from the grocery store works best)
- Season salt
- Cheese (sliced, whatever your heart desires. We use White American)
- Hamburger buns
Peel and chop your onions. It doesn’t have to be super-fine, just so long as you have enough to cover the bottom of a large skillet and be about a 1/2 inch think.
Next, take your burger patties and lay them on top of the onions. Thinner patties work best with this recipe, or you’ll be cooking burgers for forever! And your onions will get really gross. Then pour in enough water to come about half-way up the patties, but don’t cover them!
Sprinkle with season salt and pepper to taste, I just give a good shake of each over the whole pan. Turn your burner on medium high to high and cook the burgers, add more water as nessecery and turning the burgers every once in a while.
Once the burger are done to your liking, place a slice cheese on top of your burger, and then stack the burger buns in this order: top bun on top of burger, bottom bun on top of top bun. This lets the buns steam a little and get some flavor! Do this for about a minute, taking care to not let the buns get soggy.
When you’re ready, take the bottom bun off and put it on a plate, then place the burger and the top bun on top, and enjoy!
