O’Fallon Firecracker 5k Race Recap

on

Race Morning

I got up around 5:30 a.m. despite not getting to bed until way late the night before. I got dressed and headed towards O’Fallon around 6 a.m.

I ate a cereal bar on the way to the ball park, and had a glass of water before I left the house.

The Race

I was so glad that I brought my Nathan bottle with Nuun in it, because it was so humid and hot that I needed to drink right away. I probably need to eat something a little more substancial before the race, but since I’ve only done cereal bars right before, I didn’t want to mess with my routine too much. I managed to run through the first mile and a half before I decided to take a walk break. I was a little disappointed that I didn’t run the entire thing, but with the weather and my lack of training it would have been diasterous if I would have continued to try. My mile splits were

  • Mile 1- 15:24
  • Mile 2- 17:04
  • Mile 3- 17:29
  • .1-15:31 pace

So yeah, you can see I definitely slowed down alot due to the warm weather and not wanting to get heat stroke or anything. I didn’t even kick when I got to the finish but I still felt pretty wiped out. Now I have nothing on my schedule until October, August is pretty busy for me so I will probably be taking a break from races and then September is just kind of up in the air.

I finished roughly around 52 minutes. I don’t have exact times because my Garmin battery died as I typed this up 😦 But I will update my race result section soon!
